Auditions for the YAAOrchestra are open to all instrumentalists in Grades 9-12 located in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

When you register for an audition above, you will select a 30-minute time block. Auditionees for each time block will audition in order of arrival. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time.

Please prepare a Grade 4+ Solo and ALL MAJOR scales on your instrument.

Auditions for the YAACompany are open to all actors, singers and dancers in Grades 9-12 located in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

When you register for an audition above, you will select a 30-minute time block. Auditionees for each time block will audition in order of arrival. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time.

Requirements

1.  Come prepared to sing a musical theatre or art song selection of your choosing that best shows off your voice (ballad or uptempo are fine.)  It's best to bring a song that you know well and can perform from memory, not one that was just learned a few days prior.

2.  In addition, in order to be considered for a solo, please also prepare one of the excerpted selections that can be downloaded below:

  • Women:  Back to Before  or  Your Daddy's Son
  • Men:  Success  or  Make Them Hear You

You will be notified if you have been accepted into the YAACompany by e-mail by Monday, November 20, 2017 by 10:00pm.

Those who are accepted into the YAACompany will have to accept their position by paying their tuition no later than Thursday, November 23, 2017 (Thanksgiving Day) by 10:00pm.

YAACompany auditions for the Fall and Spring Semesters will take place at both our YAA@HolyCross campus at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Montgomery County and YAA@CabinJohn campus at Cabin John Middle School, as well as at our YAA@RedBridge campus at Red Bridge Studios in Howard County.

Audition Schedule



Auditions for YAAjunior are open to all actors, singers and dancers in Grades 5-8 located in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

When you register for an audition above, you will select a 30-minute time block. Auditioners for each time block will audition in order of arrival. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time.

Logistics


Come prepared to sing 32 bars or more of a musical theatre song that best shows off your voice (ballad and/or uptempo are fine). You may prepare the whole song or a 32 bar cut of the song (roughly a verse and a chorus).

If you do not have a musical theatre selection prepared, you can sing another song such as:

  • a pop song
  • Happy Birthday
  • My Country 'tis of Thee.

However, please try and prepare a musical theatre song if possible. 

Please bring piano accompaniment music, as an pianist will be provided at your audition. Please make every effort to have the song memorized.

In the audition, students will perform their selection, but might not be asked to sing the whole song, depending on the length. Student may also be asked to vocalize and/or sing parts of the song again with suggested modifications. 

Requirements
