YAAjunior Daytime Intensive is a fun and rigorous summer program where middle school students from the Maryland, Virginia and DC areas explore their passion for the performing arts following a 12-day experience in the disciplines of Singing, Acting, and Dancing. Their experience culminates with a Junior production of a musical that will be performed at the end of the intensives at the state-of-the art performing arts center at the Sandy Spring Friends School in Sandy Spring, MD.
In Summer 2017, the YAAjunior musical will be You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Daily classes for all Voice Majors are designed to challenge students interested in musical theatre, classical or contemporary singing. The Voice track will consist of classes designed to propel a student forward in this competitive discipline. Classes will include: Music Theory, Voice Class, Acting and Movement for Singers.
Daily classes for all Dance Majors are designed to challenge students focused on dance. The Dance track will consist of classes designed to propel a student forward in this competitive discipline. Classes can include: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern and Hip Hop.
Daily classes for all Acting Majors are designed to challenge students interested in acting. The Acting track will consist of classes designed to propel a student forward in this competitive discipline. Classes can include: Acting Games, Improvisation, Monologue Coaching. as well as Scene Study and Character Development. Students will work on both contemporary and classical audition pieces.

All students regardless of experience will be admitted to our Summer Intensives. However, auditions to best place you in a class level are required. Once registered for the program, each student must register separately for a placement audition. Video auditions will be accepted for those who are unable to attend the live auditions.
Please prepare to sing one of the following for your audition:
- Happy Birthday
- My Country 'tis of Thee
- America the Beautiful
- 16-32 bars of a musical theatre or pop song (roughly a verse and chorus)
If you are singing a prepared song, please bring sheet music as a pianist will be available to play for you.

- $1,395 for Early-Bird Registration before December 31, 2016
- $1,495 for Regular Registration after January 1, 2017
- A deposit of $500 is due upon registration (refundable until March 1, 2017).
- 2nd payment of half of the remaining balance is due by April 1, 2016 (non-refundable).
- Final balance due on June 1, 2017 (non-refundable).
- All classes and rehearsals with resident and visiting faculty
- Daily lunch in the Dining Hall (Monday thru Friday)
- Outdoor recreational activities including a day of Swimming and Zip-lining at Adventure Park
- A production of a Junior musical with a performance on the last day of the program.

Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS) sits on a gorgeous 140-acre wooded campus that includes: academic and administrative buildings, the historic Meeting House, Westview Residence Hall, faculty residences, a top of the line Athletic Center (including a fitness center and rock climbing wall), sports fields, Wildebeest Waterhole (a spring-fed swimming pond complete with water trampoline), and Sandy Spring Adventure Park (the largest zip-line aerial park in North America!).
All Young Artists of America Summer Inteives activities will take place in the brand new, fully air-conditioned, state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center, which features a fully-equipped 300-seat proscenium theater, professional lighting and audio, scene shop, dressing rooms, costume shop, dance studio as well as multiple rehearsal rooms with pianos.
SSFS is located in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland just 30 minutes from Baltimore and Washington, DC and is easily accessible from I-95 and I-270 via the new Intercounty Connector (ICC) MD-200.
Sandy Spring Friends School offers school bus transportation to and from campus during normal operational hours for an additional cost. They offer busing from a variety of locations in DC and Montgomery and Howard counties, such as: Rockville, Silver Spring, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Kensington, Columbia and downtown DC.
