NEW All-Star Program

A New Performance Opportunity for Advanced Musicians in Grades 9-12

Overview

WHAT’S NEW?

We’re excited to introduce our NEW All-Star model for YAAOrchestra for the 2025-2026 season. This elite, audition-based program offers talented young musicians the exceptional opportunity to rehearse and perform side-by-side with professional orchestral musicians, focusing on unique symphonic theatrical repertoire on some of the area’s leading professional stages.

Musician Expectations

As an All-Star Orchestra member, you'll be held to the same high standards as our professional musicians.

Expectations of our student musicians include:

  • Independent teacher-coached preparation of all music prior to the first rehearsal

  • Consistent attendance at all scheduled rehearsals

  • Professional conduct throughout the production process

Important Note: This program requires serious commitment to independent/teacher-coached preparation. Musicians who arrive unprepared for the first rehearsal may be dismissed from the production.

We're thrilled to offer this professional-level performance opportunity to our talented young musicians. The All-Star model recognizes your advanced abilities and provides a genuine professional music experience that will challenge and inspire you!

Program Details

  • Led by Music Director, Kristofer Sanz, the YAAOrchestra is open to instrumental students ages 14-19 from the Maryland, Virginia and DC area. A unique symphonic ensemble, our program focuses specifically on an accelerated track for advanced musicians who get to rehearsal and play alongside professional musicians in some of the area’s leading professional venues.

YAAOrchestra students will focus on rehearsing and performing fully-orchestrated works of music-theatre. Students are provided with the opportunity to regularly collaborate with some of the area’s leading vocalists and dancers, as well as to be mentored by leading creatives from professional symphonies and stages (see Mentorship Program below).

Many of our alumni have gone on to study at prestigious universities including: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Juilliard, Peabody, Cleveland Institute of Music, Carnegie Mellon, University of Michigan, Penn State, CCM (Cincinnati), NYU, Baldwin Wallace, Northwestern, Rice, Indiana, and UMD. These students and their families often credit Young Artists of America at Strathmore for preparing them for college and their musical careers beyond.
